Dragons and Cherub Motif
5 Attachments * Circa Late 1800’s
This dramatic chatelaine is silver plated, has 5 chains, and is decorated with a dragons and cherub motif. It is in good condition with a crisp design.
The waist plaque with a hinged clip on the back has two finely detailed dragons swirling around a central medallion bearing the image of the god Mars.
The secondary suspended plaque bears the image of a dragon being speared through the neck by a cherub. The five link chains have open filigree designs and spring clips at the ends.
The tools all have repoussé floral and leaf designs. The tools are:
Thimble bucket with thimble (thimble is old but not
original to the set)
Scissors sheath with scissors
Aide-memoire (notebook) with 3 pages
Slide out pencil with pencil remains in it (the slide is frozen)
Tape measure with the original measuring tape and a crank to
rewind the tape.
The condition of the chatelaine and all of the attachments is good.
However, the thimble and thimble holder are a bit out of round.
The chatelaine is 12 ¼” long from top to bottom. The scissors are 3 1/2" long. The blades are tight with sharp points and they cut paper well.
