Antique Mother Of Pearl Box w/ Tiny Sewing ToolsFrench * Circa 1850
This little box is made of wood and covered with panels of mother of pearl and abalone. The inside is lined with dk blue velvet (original) and it holds a set of tiny French gilded metal & steel needlework tools. Inside are a pair of scissors, a stiletto, a thimble, a bodkin, a tiny ball of linen thread and a packet of needles. The scissors are 2" long, the stiletto 1 3/4" long and the bodkin slightly over 1 3/4" long. The little thimble is 1/2" high and about an American child's size 0-1 (10.6 mm diameter opening). All of the tools are in great condition with no dents, holes or damage. The scissors have tight steel blades, intact points and cut very well. The steel shank on the stiletto has a needle sharp point.
The top of the box is inlaid with a silver cartouche (not monogrammed). The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. The bottom has the original paper and little brass "feet". It measures 2 3/4" long x 1 3/4" wide x 1 3/8" high and
closes with a push button clasp that works well.
