Antique Cased Gilded Silver Sewing SetFrench * Circa 1920
This lovely
French necessaire is in a gold embossed leather covered wooden box.
Inside, the fitted velvet and satin interior holds a complete set of gilded silver sewing tools.
The tools are embossed with fluted designs accented with beading and acanthus leaves
. Included are a
needle case, stiletto, bodkin, thimble and scissors.
They were made by
Henri Lambin who worked as a silversmith in Paris at 17 rue de Cléry from 1909-1936.
They are stamped with the French boar's head silver hallmark used for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris.
The thimble is about an American size 9 (15.4 mm diameter opening) but it narrows quickly and would fit a smaller finger.
It's in excellent condition with no holes, dents or even wear. The other tools are also in great condition with no dents or loss of gilding. They almost look unused. The scissors are 3 7/8" long. The steel blades are tight with needle sharp points and they cut very well to the tips.
The
case is in excellent condition with no damage and just a little scuffing. Inside the top lining is stamped "Made in Paris for Shreve and Company".
The linings are all original and the hinges are strong. It closes well with a push button clasp, measures 6" by 3 1/4" and t
he tools all fit their spaces perfectly
. I think they're original to the set.
I stand behind everything that I offer and
guarantee
that it is exactly as presented.
