Peculiar Antique Item...Possibly a Belt Buckle or Sewing Notion
Thin, round medallion-type thing with a lacquered finish and gold debossed floral motif. Its construction definitely appears to be old, guessing Victorian era.
The back looks like Gutta Percha but the front feels like shellac. Some sort of early-plastic or composition. The back features a metal hook held in place by two brass studs and two plastic sew-through thingamabobs. Hopefully the photos do a better job explaining this thing than I did.
